FREEDOM AND SAFETY

We undoubtedly live in a time of fast technological advancement. In the fields of AI, machine learning, and nanotechnology, new developments are occurring. Massive scientific advancements over the past ten years alone have brought us one step closer to a future in which artificial intelligence will pervade every aspect of our daily lives.

And now we find out that by 2030, it’s possible for people to become immortal. Let’s give that some time to register.

According to Ray Kurzweil, a futurist with a history of making correct forecasts, humanity may be able to live indefinitely in 7 years.

In 1990, Kurzweil made the accurate prediction that a computer would defeat human world chess champions by the year 2000. He also correctly predicted the emergence of portable computers and smartphones, the transition to more wireless technology, and the Internet’s explosive growth before it was widely understood.

According to Kurzweil, nanobots will revolutionise healthcare. Our bodies will be able to heal themselves at the molecular level, protecting us from illness, ageing, and ultimately death. He also thinks that people may immortalise themselves by uploading their consciousness into a digital form.

Yet his most well-known prediction - about which he even authored a book - is that the singularity would be attained by the year 2045. The singularity is the point at which artificial intellect equals or exceeds that of humans.
